BACKING COOK AGAINST THE AUSSIES?

20 November 2013

Having a bet on the Ashes?

Alastair Cook produced a record-breaking performance on England's last Ashes tour; now punters will be hoping he can repeat the trick.

Ahead of the opening Test in Brisbane, we have Price Boosted the England captain to 7/2 to be his side's top runscorer in the forthcoming five-Test series.

That's an industry-best price about a player who made 766 runs in five matches Down Under in 2010/11 at an average of 127.66.

He made three centuries, including a top-score of 235 not out. With Cook out to 7/2, Kevin Pietersen is favourite to top-score at 100/30 with Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott bracketed together at 4/1.

Michael Carberry has impressed as an opener in the warm-up games and is now a 13/2 shot alonsgide Joe Root who is expected to drop down the order.

It is, however, Australia captain Michael Clarke who heads the betting on the series' overall top batsman, although the next five in line are all England players.

Odds are subject to change.
