CHAIRMAN PLANNING AHEAD

David Cardoza on his thoughts ahead of next season

Chairman David Cardoza is proud of the progress that the club has made this season, but he was of course disappointed with Saturday's loss at Wembley.

“We’ve made huge progress this season and to go from relegation candidates to being 90 minutes away from promotion and playing at Wembley is a great achievement,” he said in a Cobblers Player interview.

“I’m really proud of what we have achieved this season but I was bitterly disappointed on Saturday.

“Bradford had been to Wembley before which clearly worked in their favour and unfortunately we just froze for the first half an hour.

“I’ve already had some conversations with Aidy about next season, we’ve been running over budget this season and we are going to try and get things back in line financially.

“We will make the squad as strong as possible and I think we’ve got every chance next season of going up automatically.

“We were only a couple of games off going up automatically this season and if we can keep our home form going and build on our away form from towards the end of the season then we will certainly have every chance.

“We’ve always been really keen on promoting young players and our youth team is hugely important as it always has been.

“Lewis Hornby has been one of the real bright sparks this season and he is a terrific player for someone of such a young age.

“He needs to keep going and keep improving and we’ve also got David Moyo and Claudio Dias to add to the squad as well.

“The fans have been terrific all season and just before the game on Saturday standing up where I was and seeing all our fans was just one of the best feelings I’ve ever had.

“I was so disappointed for them that we were out of the game after 20 minutes but we will fight back and we will come back.

“As Aidy has said you need to pick yourselves up from these situations, we will do that and we will move on as a club as we always do and we’ll get it right next season.”
