ALEX THE ONLY ABSENTEE FOR WEMBLEY

15 May 2013

Team news for the play-off final

The Cobblers head to Wembley on Saturday with a fully fit squad, with long-term injury victim striker Alex Nicholls the only absentee.

“Everybody has declared themselves fit and everyone wants to play,” boss Aidy Boothroyd has confirmed.

“It’s quite a big gap between the semi-final and the final and we had a little practice match on Saturday behind closed doors.

“I think that preparation is always the key and you need to make sure that you are ready for any eventuality.

“The extra days off have helped the players who were struggling a little bit and we go into the game with a fully fit squad, Alex Nicholls apart, which is great.

“We don’t want to leave any stone unturned and everyone has a part to play.

“We’ve got some work to do this week but this is where you have got to be ruthless.

“There will be players who are disappointed not to start the game or who aren’t even on the bench but its up to me to pick a team that I think can win the game.

“Wembley can be an intimidating place and that’s why as a squad we went there earlier in the week to make sure that there are going to be no surprises.

“We visited the hotel that we are going to be staying at as well just so we know exactly where we’re going and exactly what we’re going to be doing.

“In this group we’ve got the belief that we can do it and I think we’ve got players who can deal with high pressure situations.

“It’s all about winning this game, there is so much good faith in this town, we have got a cricket team doing well and a rugby team doing well and we know that on our day we can beat anybody.”
