HOOPER SIGNS TOWN DEAL

Young striker puts pen to paper

Northampton Town have signed former Newcastle United striker JJ Hooper on a one year contract with an option for a further year after a successful trial spell.

19 year old, 6ft 1in Hooper made an immediate impact at St James Park, scoring a hat-trick on his debut for the Geordies under 18 side against Chelsea. He previously played junior football in Kent before joining Newcastle.

In 2012 he had work experience spells at Darlington and Workington before leaving Newcastle ahead of the move to Sixfields.

"JJ is a very talented individual," said boss Aidy Boothroyd.

"He has come from a big Premier League club but has maybe got lost in the system a little bit.

"We are giving him an opportunity to make a name for himself and to get his career going.

"He has an awful lot to do and a lot to learn but he has potential. How well he does and how far he goes is down to JJ.

"I expect him to be challenging for a first team place towards the end of the season."
