The Cobblers travelled to Corby on a bright warm evening to contest the Northamptonshire Football Association’s Maunsell Cup Final.
New signing JJ Hooper had agreed a contract earlier in the afternoon and partnered David Moyo in attack, both of whom enjoyed opportunities running at the opposition, and it was on 19 minutes that the scoring was opened. Moyo held the ball up well and played it into the path of Hooper who travelled into the area before applying a clinical finish across the keeper into the bottom corner. Almost straight from the restart Moyo nearly doubled the lead, but was unlucky to see his header rebound off the bar and cleared away to safety.
Former Cobblers keeper Paul Walker was kept busy and did well turn a Hooper free kick round the post just prior to the break and in the final action of the half a Corby free-kick from the edge of the area crashed into the wall and was cleared.
The second half got underway without any prior substitutions, although the Cobblers did have concern shortly afterwards when Connor Roberts required lengthy treatment following a heavy challenge from Moreman, thankfully he was able to continue.
Corby found an equaliser on 69 minutes, when Moreman skipped past the challenges of Artell and Roberts to send in a low cross, which gave Shariff a close range opportunity to slot home at the far post. The Steelmen looked to capitalise whilst the team regrouped following the changes and had a period of momentum that was well defended.
Ivan Toney regained the lead for the Cobblers on 84 minutes when he rose highest to head home an in swinging Cadogan corner and on 88 minutes Demontagnac created an excellent chance driving at the Corby defence, but his left foot effort was well saved by Walker.
Triliast Kieran Cadogan finished the scoring on the final whistle, as Ivan Toney broke away and unselfishly squared the ball to the trialist to slot home with Walker stranded.
