Midfielder to be latest new addition

Northampton Town will sign former Cheltenham Town midfielder Darren Carter on a 2 year contract effective from August 1st.

The 29 year old who has made more than 250 senior appearances, started his career at St Andrews with Birmingham before moving to West Bromwich Albion for £1.5 million in 2005.

He later enjoyed four years at Preston, playing more than 100 times for North End before spending last season at Cheltenham Town, playing 38 times.

"Darren's pedigree is clear for everyone to see," said boss Aidy Boothroyd.

“I think we’ve got a really, really good player on our hands, he’s got a great record and he’s in absolutely fantastic shape.

“He has had a lot of other offers so I’m delighted we’ve managed to get him.

“He’s a terrific professional, he scores goals from midfield and he’s a winner.

"He has played a lot of football in  the top two divisions, he is a good age and I think he will be another excellent addition to our squad."
