Cobblers boss on Tuesday's game with Leicester

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd was pleased with the performance of his side in the final pre-season friendly against Leicester City on Tuesday night.

“I was very satisfied with the performance,” he said.

“Leicester are a really good team and if we hadn’t approached the game properly we could have got a real good hiding.

“We created lots of chances, we had to keep Leicester at bay but overall it was a really good game for us.

“For me good football has never been about the long pass or the short pass it’s about the right pass, we work on lots of things in training and we’ve got players who can really handle the ball.

“That’s not to say that the players we had before couldn’t because of course they could but I think this group are just that little bit better at doing that.

“I’m not going to say that you are going to see Barcelona at Sixfields but we are looking to play a different way and we want to play good attacking football.

“I was very impressed with some of the trialists and I will have a think now about all of them and what I want to do.

“I’m going to have a chat with the Chairman and ideally I’d like to have a couple more in before Saturday.

“I’m amazed at some of the players out there who haven’t been picked up yet and I think that just goes to show the climate that we are in at the moment.

“Michael Spillane is one of those and I thought he was excellent against Leicester.

“I’ve known him for a long time, he’s a good character and he can play in a number of different positions.”

Later this month we will be launching our official You Tube channel bringing you behind the scenes footage. You can see the Cobblers players walking out of the tunnel for the Leicester City game as part of a sneak preview of the service below.
