Cobblers boss still looking to add

Northampton Town boss Aidy Boothroyd was pleased to see his team lift the Maunsell Cup after a 3-1 success at Corby Town on Wednesday night, and he is still focussing on adding to his squad before the start of the new season.

"It is always nice to win a trophy," he said.

"It was a tough game on Wednesday, we had to fight to keep Corby at bay in the seciond half and then we scored some late goals to seal the win.

"JJ Hooper scored the first goal and he can be pleased. He has a lot of talent but he needs someone on at him all the time to make sure he stays focussed, which I will do. If he does that then he will have a good career. He won't be starter for us but the challenge for him is to force his way into the team as the season goes on.

"Kieron Cadogan and Danny Emerton will spend the next week or so with us so we can have a good look at them. I thought they did well at Corby and they will stay with us for a few more days

"We are in a good position as a club. There are a lot of players out of contract and we can take our time, be fussy and we can pick and choose a bit more. We have more choice than we have had in previous years.

"Darren Purse has moved on to another club where he has an opportunity to earn a contract. We thank him for his efforts and we hope we have helped Darren get some match practice in.

"Liam Dickinson will be out with his injury for a few weeks. We have said to his agent to call us when Liam is fit but we have also said we may well have moved on by then. It is unfortunate for Liam and we wish him well.

"We are not ready for the season yet. I am hoping to try and tie up Gary Deegan and we need a right back. Kevin Amankwaah has done well there so he is in with a chance and we need a front man as well and that is a key one. I want a number of front men challenging for a place, and they will be Clive Platt, Roy O'Donovan and one other, backed up by JJ Hooper and David Moyo.

"I want us to be faster and more mobile this season and I think we have been in pre-season. We will have a small squad but it will be a squad of quality and that is the way I have chosen to go."

Next month we will be launching our official You Tube channel bringing you behind the scenes footage. You can see the Cobblers being presented with the Maunsell Cup as part of a sneak preview of the service below.
