After back-to-back postponements at AFC Wimbledon and Gillingham the Cobblers kicked off 2013 back at Sixfields against Dagenham & Redbridge.
Adebayo Akinfenwa (suspension) and Joe Widdowson (dead leg) both came back into the side while Jake Robinson replaced the injured Emyr Huws in midfield. With Clarke Carlisle notable to play Anthony Charles partnered Kelvin Langmead in central defence. The fit again Luke Guttridge was named among the substitutes.
The Cobblers had the better of the opening 20 minutes without really creating any clear cut chances. Sam Williams raced through for the Daggers on 26 minutes but despite being well-placed in front of goal failed to test Lee Nicholls.
Town took the lead on 36 minutes when Abu Ogogo diverted the ball into his own net following a good flick on from Clive Platt.
That lead was quickly doubled, Platt opened up the defence with a cross field ball and Chris Hackett showed a neat turn of pace before finding the bottom corner with a terrific finish.
