Squad visit Mixed Martial Arts Centre
The Cobblers squad headed down to BST gym in the Sol Central building to get involved in a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) class on Tuesday.
“The squad came in and used MMA training for an extra fitness blast. MMA fighters are known for their core strength, explosive power and sustained energy outputs,” explained Danny Batten, a man with over 20 years of experience in multiple disciplines.
“The centre is purpose built for MMA and fitness. We aim to help people achieve their personal goals in martial arts and fitness. To do this we have world class coaches delivering in a world class facility available at the most affordable price. Downstairs we have a full gym environment with plenty of equipment to ensure members can complete a successful workout with plenty of advice available from our staff,” said Greg.
“Upstairs we have 1500 sqft of dollamur training mats with padded walls and a large cage wall section. This is the perfect area for training standing and ground based martial arts systems. We have a large punch bag zone with 12 punch bags. There is a 26ft octagon and a full size boxing ring. We hope to bring martial arts to the main stream and share the professional approach to fitness that martial artists have with everyone."
“As well as hosting a wide selection of martial arts classes we also deliver fitness based classes such as Boxercise, Tai Chi, Circuit Classes and Self Defence classes."
With the weather causing changes to the training schedule, Head of Sports Science Craig Smith explained the decision to train down at BST.
“MMA is a really tough sport and requires extremely high levels of fitness," he said. "The core strength alone that the guys have is phenomenal, and there are certain overlaps between MMA and football that we felt the squad would find beneficial. The group enjoyed the change of scenery and training, and we will definitely be coming back.
“Danny is an excellent coach and the boys were really engaged in the session. If the content alone wasn’t enough to keep them in line I think Danny’s fighting experience earns a lot of respect!”
