David Cardoza on the recent form and the last week of the transfer window

Cobblers Chairman David Cardoza has been speaking exclusively to Cobblers Player about the improved form and he gives an update on the January transfer window speculation currently surrounding leading goalscorer Adebayo Akinfenwa.

“I’m enjoying every minute of it at the moment,” he said.

“It’s only January but we have to enjoy it because to have got here after what we’ve been through over the last couple of years is fantastic.

“Aidy has done a terrific job and it’s been an unbelievable turn around over the last 12 months.

“Everyone has worked hard and we are still learning all the time.

“After two bad years the fans have finally got something to hold onto and I’m really happy for them."

There has been a lot of transfer speculation surrounding Adebayo Akinfenwa, and the Chairman was quick to put the record straight.

“Bayo is our top goalscorer, we’re third in the league and of course we don’t want to lose him," he said.

“Aidy is under no pressure to sell him, I certainly don’t want to sell him and you don’t sell your top goalscorer a week before the transfer window closes unless there is a very good reason for it.

“At the moment there isn’t, I’m not saying that something might not happen but I certainly have no interest in anything happening whatsoever.

“Whatever happens I’ve got full confidence in Aidy to get it right, he’s got us to where we are now through his management and to me he is the key person above everybody else.

“I’m expecting to see one or two arrivals but there should be one or two going out as well and I’m not including Bayo in that.

“It’s going to be a really exciting few months, there are going to be ups and downs but it’s lovely too be in this position and hopefully by the end of the season the fans will have something to shout about.”
