Aidy Boothroyd praised the Cobblers fans who helped to clear the Sixfields pitch of snow ahead of the 1-0 win against Burton Albion.

“The supporters did their bit which we really do appreciate,” he said.

“The players have asked me to pass on their thanks to the supporters and it was good that we could do our bit for them in return for their efforts.

“It was two very evenly matched teams today but in the end I thought we got what we deserved.

“We got off to a fantastic start but we just couldn’t score. Burton had a game plan and you have to respect that.

“The game was a bit stop start in the first half but to win games like that you have got to be mentally alert to grind out a win and we did that.

“We kept going, I always felt that one goal was going to win the game and thankfully we got it.

“Clarke and Kelvin did really well and in terms of defending I couldn’t ask for two better centre halves.

“There were some poor individual performances at Chesterfield but today we did what we had to do to get the three points.

“What we need to do now is back this result up. We’re certainly moving in the right direction and I’m really pleased with what we are doing at home because that’s important.

“We’ve got two tough away games coming up against Aldershot and Gillingham and what we need to do now is come up with a different way of playing to get results away from home.”
