Defender ready for action

Defender John Johnson came through 90 minutes in a reserve team friendly at Stoke in midweek as he continued his recovery from injury.

“John is fit but he’s still got some work to do behind the scenes,” said boss Aidy Boothroyd.

“We want to get as many games in for him as we can but he might even be able to build up his match fitness by playing in the first team.

“I wouldn’t say that we’ve missed him because Ben Tozer has been absolutely outstanding but having Jonno back gives me different options.

“It certainly makes us tougher and more aggressive and I think we are going to need that, particularly away from home.

“It’s not often that we can get friendly games because our squad is so small and we play Saturday/Tuesday most of the time.

“It was a good opportunity for us to get a game at Stoke in the week and I thought everyone who played did very well.”
