Midfielder shows support for Age UK campaign

Age UK Northamptonshire is encouraging everyone in the area to join in and help warm up Britain for Age UK’s Bobble Day on Friday 8 February 2013. People across the country will be getting involved in this annual fundraising extravaganza, raising money to help make winter warmer for older people who are suffering needlessly at this time of year.

There are plenty of  ways to take part in Age UK’s Bobble Day. All people need to do is something warming! From digging out long-forgotten woolly jumpers and wearing them to work, to holding a tea morning or wrapping up for a bracing winter walk – people simply need to get involved, make a donation and ask others to support them too. And of course there are fluffy bobbles available for a suggested donation of £1 from Age UK Northamptonshire’s Head Office, Billing Road to brighten up everyone’s outfit on the day!

Liam Condron, Chief Executive of Age UK Northamptonshire, said: “Taking part in Bobble Day is simple and fun. People can organise their own winter warming activity, everyone will be helping to raise vital funds for people in later life. We want to encourage as many people as possible in Northamptonshire to get involved and help us to warm up Britain this winter.”

Paul Farthing, Fundraising Director at Age UK, said: “There is no doubt that Bobble Day is a great way to have fun. Nonetheless, there is a serious issue at its heart; this winter as many as 25,000 older people could die needlessly because of the cold. That’s around 200 preventable deaths a day . Moreover, February is often one of the coldest months of the year and many older people will be suffering. By getting involved in Bobble Day people in Northamptonshire can help us combat the problems that too many older people face in winter.”

Money raised from Bobble Day 2013 will go towards Age UK’s Spread the Warmth campaign. Age UK and its local and national partners are working to keep older people warm and well. Age UK is providing social activities and contact for older people, as well as tips on combating the cold at home and outdoors. The Charity is keeping people warm and safe at home, giving out hot nutritious meals and offering information and advice 365 days a year. Age UK is also calling on the Government to boost the energy efficiency of older people’s homes. Act now to Spread the Warmth and help hundreds of thousands of older people.

Older people and their families can call Age UK Advice for free on 0800 169 65 65, where they can also order a free copy of ‘Winter wrapped up’ with a free thermometer.  Alternatively they can visit www.spreadthewarmth.org.uk to download the guide, get more information about the Spread the Warmth campaign and find out where their local Age UK office or shop is. There are lots of ways to help Age UK Spread the Warmth this winter. People can make a donation simply by calling 0800 169 87 87 or visiting www.spreadthewarmth.org.uk.
