Cobblers caretaker boss Andy King said his squad is very stretched for the New Years Day game against Chesterfield.

"We lost Luke Norris to an injury in the game at Portsmouth and we really are down to the bare bones," he said.

"We need players and there is a possibility that we can bring players in on loan before the game on New Years Day. You can't have a permanent signing registered in time for that game but the loan deadline is three hours before.

"The players have run themselves into the ground in the last two games and but for a set piece goal in the last 5 minutes at Burton we might have had two clean sheets.

"I like the club and I don't want to see this club relegated.

"The Chairman has been good to me in the two years that I've been here and he has always been very supportive.

"At the moment, all I can do is just take it game by game."
