BTEC EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

Club offering the chance for potential students to become part of our BTEC Scholarship U18 Development Squad in 2014

Northampton Town in conjunction with the Cobblers Study Centre are offering the chance for potential students to become part of our BTEC Scholarship U18 Development Squad in 2014.

The BTEC Scholarship programme offers students who have just finished their GCSE’s an opportunity to continue their full time education alongside training, playing football and representing Northampton Town in the British Colleges Leagues.

The education offer sees qualified and experienced teachers and tutors provide a first class education programme, with students able to gain the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport which is equivalent to 3 A Levels. As such, the minimum requirements to come on to the course are 4 A*-C GCSE grades, including Maths and English, as well as good footballing ability. On successful completion of the course, students may be able to progress on to University or other further education opportunities, as well as a career in the sports industry.

Whilst on the course, there will be opportunities for students to obtain vocational sporting qualifications, such as the FA Level 1 and 2 Coaching badges and a refereeing qualification. There are also lots of opportunities to take part in work experience or placements within different areas of the club, depending on the interests of the student.

The football element of the course will see players benefiting from up to 8 hours of coaching with a UEFA ‘B’ Licenced coach and games in the National College League. There will also be crossover between the education and playing side, with some of the education parts of the course delivered practically. There will be a total of 14 league games played on Wednesday afternoons against other clubs and colleges in the programme throughout the season, which will be supplemented with Cup and friendly fixtures.

Open trials and open days will be running later this month for anyone who is interested in applying to become one of our scholars. To register your interest or to find out more about what we can offer, please email pete.stephenson@ntfc.tv
