BRAVE PERFORMANCE IN DEFEAT

5 December 2013

Ladies beaten in bruising encounter

A brave effort from a young Northampton Town Ladies team could not prevent them slipping to a 3-1 defeat at home to Burton Park Wanderers.

The game exploded into life early on as Cobblers conceded a goal from a corner but they were back on terms within 5 minutes, as a good move saw Alex Bartlett (pictured) produce a tidy finish from an angle that gave the Burton keeper no chance.

However, the Cobblers fragility from set pieces struck again as another corner wasn’t cleared and the ball found its way into the back of the net, meaning Burton led 2-1 at half time.

After losing 3 players to injury in the first half in what was a physical game, the Cobblers were forced to carry on with 10 players after a late challenge meant a fourth Cobblers player was forced off.

While down to 10, Burton capitalised to go 3-1 up.

The Cobblers were given a lifeline with 10 minutes to go as the referee produced a straight red card for a Burton player. However, despite being 10 v 10 for the last 10 minutes, the Cobblers couldn’t find another goal and the game finished 3-1, but Cobblers came out of a difficult game with a lot of credit.
