AIDY - 'NEED TO PICK OURSELVES UP'

7 December 2013

The views of the Cobblers boss

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd was unhappy with the FA Cup second round defeat at Grimsby.

"I'm deeply disappointed," he said.

"We knew this game was going to be difficult and we came here with a game plan but if you don't defend set plays properly you are going to give yourself a problem from the outset.

"The first goal was a really poor one to concede and although the second goal was disappointing it came at a time when we were pushing everyone forward to try and get the equaliser.

"We created chances and we got the ball into their box but we couldn't get that final touch.

"Our game plan was working perfectly by looking to contain against the wind and then being more expanisve in the second half and I couldn't really see them scoring, but the first goal we conceded was down to some really unprofessional play.

"In the last five or six weeks we've done some really good things, this is another punch on the nose but we've got to pick ourselves up again and get on with it.

"We are crawling away from where we are in the league and we've got a very important game at Bury coming up next week.

"We are moving in the right direction, this is a massive month for us and we need to pick ourselves up quickly."
