DUO NEARING RETURN

8 August 2013

Platt and Hackett back in training

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd is delighted with the progress of Clive Platt and Chris Hackett on their return to training, but says they won't be risked on Saturday.

“Chris and Clive are both working very hard but they won’t be considered for Saturday,” he said.

“Chris did a full session on Thursday but what I don’t want to do is rush the pair of them back before they are ready.

“It’s important that we get the balance right between work and rest and that when Chris and Clive do come back that we keep them fit.

“Roy O’Donovan got another 90 minutes under his belt on Tuesday night and he is looking a lot sharper now.

“We need our best players fit and when we’ve got that we are a good team and a very difficult team to beat.

“I think that there is no big panic, we got five points in August last year and we got to the play-off final.

“It takes time to build a team, I could have easily kept hold of more players from last season and we probably would have started better but if we are going to play the way that I want us to and win games how I want us to then the team had to be dismantled.

“If I am going to bring a player in it will be a player that I want and someone that I think can add to the group.

“What I’m trying to do is make us better and better for longer and if I bring a player in it will be for the right reasons.”
