Group were guests at the Newport County game

Coaching Day for players with Downs syndrome

Just before the recent game with Newport County, young people with Downs Syndrome were invited to Sixfields as guests of the club's Football in the Community scheme. The youngsters were given a tour of the stadium they then visited the home changing rooms where they had their photographs taken. Before they took part in a coaching session they were fortunate enough to have their photographs taking with club captain Kelvin Langmead and Cobblers players Ben Tozer and Matt Heath. After the coaching session the players had some lunch before receiving their match tickets to watch the Northampton Town v Newport County game.

On Sunday September 1 at the Goals Soccer Centre in Northampton, the weekly coaching sessions begin again for players with Downs Syndrome. Times are 10.30am to 12pm and the sessions are open to anyone with Downs Syndrome.

The coaching has been taking place for eighteen months and a DS team as been formed. This team has twice taken part in the national finals at West Brom, performing really well, and have played the Swindon Town DS team. When the season starts in September more matches will be organised for the team.
