The views of the Cobblers boss

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd was very unhappy with the performance of his team in the second half of Saturday's 2-1 loss to Torquay United.

"I am really, really annoyed," he said.

"In the first half we were well on top. We had the better of their full back and we got some good crosses in to the area but we didn't get enough contact on those crosses.

"In the second half we were done on two counter attacks with their players running past ours and that is annoying and unacceptable.

"The wind played a part but we were nowhere near strong enough or brave enough to deal with the conditions. I am really annoyed with one or two of the players today but that will remain behind closed doors.

"Football is an emotional game and that is why I am careful to give you my honest opinion but not to say too much. In the first half there was some good stuff from us, we dominated the game but the reason we didn't win is because we didn't do the basics well enough. We didn't do the stuff we work on all week, like making sure we are solid defensively when we attack. It won't happen again.

"This is part of being a new team. We played some good stuff but we have areas to work on as well. We seem to be beating ourselves at the moment and that isn't great.

"We have to take it on the chin, take our medicine and move forward. I will watch the game again and give the players my full opinion on Monday.

"Chris Hackett and Matt Heath are in contention next week. We have tried to change our style a bit, and while we want to play entertaining football that wins, we need the balance right and we need strong players who can do the ugly things well and that is what I need to look at."
