AIDY FRUSTRATED AFTER YORK LOSS

3 August 2013

The views of the Cobblers boss

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd was a frustrated man as he reflected on the opening day defeat at York.

"It's a disappointing result after I thought we'd done enough to get something," he said.

"It was a very scrappy game, typical of the start of the season.

"In the end I would have taken a point but unfortunately we are talking about the referee and his decisions. Richard Cresswell was booked in the first half, then he went down in our area in the second half. As I see it, if the referee decided it was simulation, and he didn't give a penalty, then it is a second caution. You don't want to see players sent off but that was a big moment.

"We showed that we are at the start of the season, the work rate and the energy was there but what wasn't there was the final ball.

"In the second half we had the better of the chances and even after the sending off I thought we had enough to take a point.

"I thought it was a very steady performance, we didn't use our extra man in midfield well enough but that will come in time.

"We were mobile and we fashioned chances but in the end we have been punished for not dealing with a ball into our box.

"We want to be more potent away from home and I thought Danny Emerton had an excellent debut.

"It is very early days, we wanted a point minimum from this game but we aren't going to feel sorry for ourselves and what I've said to the players is that we need to bounce back quickly.

"Chris Hackett and Clive Platt are making good progress but they are probably still a couple of weeks away."
