AIDY DEMANDING STRONG WORK ETHIC

9 August 2013

The views of the Cobblers boss

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd previews Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two clash against League newcomers Newport County at Sixfields.

“We didn’t put in a very good account of ourselves on Tuesday night and we want to put that right on Saturday by putting in a good performance and getting a good result,” he said.

“I wasn’t very happy with our work ethic on Tuesday night but when we did put our foot on the gas we showed what we are capable of.

“I want us to be a strong team who are difficult to beat but at the same time play attacking exciting football.

“When you are a new team it does take time to pull everything together but there is no excuse for not working as hard as your opponent.

“I don’t mind getting beat but if you are going to lose you need to go down fighting and you don’t give in at any stage.

“Newport play three at the back so tactically we might have to do something a bit different on Saturday but the onus has to be on us.

“They have had two very good results and you always have momentum when you get promoted but we’ve just got to focus on putting them under as much pressure defensively as we can.

“It’s a League Two game, we are at home and it’s about what we do and how positive we are.

“It’ll be a tough game but we need to get our season going by putting three points on the board.”
