The views of the Cobblers bpss

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd reflected on the 3-1 win against Newport County.

“It was a good result but as I said to the players afterwards we’ve still got a lot to do performance wise,” he said.

“It was a tough game as they always are and it sometimes takes a game like that to show the players what league football is all about.

“Newport were at it today and they were a very difficult team to play against but in the end I think the result was deserved.

“For the first 15 minutes it was like the Alamo and we had to do everything we could to keep them out.

“We are miles away from where I want us to be but that rhythm and understanding that you need in a team does take time to build.

“This is a new team and we’ve still got a lot of work to do.

“We’ve got very good players, better players than we had last year but we just need to get everyone fit and the more games we play together the better we will be.

“Clive Platt has trained this week and he will come back into contention for Southend as will Chris Hackett.

“Jacob Blyth will do well for us, he has scored a lot of goals in non-league and he is a player that can have an influence on a game as you saw today.”
