AIDY - 'THE SEASON IS JUST STARTING'

27 April 2013

The views of the Cobblers boss

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd reflected on the 2-0 win against Barnet.

“Overall I thought we got what we deserved today,” he said.

“The first half wasn’t particularly good but you sometimes get that when you change the team round a bit.

“We shifted one or two things around at half-time and I thought in the second half we were very strong.

“When Bayo came on it changed the game and once we got up the pitch and kept hold of the ball I thought we looked very good and could have had a couple more goals.

“I left a few players out today and I just wanted to make sure that those players were one hundred per cent fit for Thursday night.

“We’ve got a few days now until we play again and by that time those players will be fit and available.

“I’ve got in my mind an idea of the team I want to play on Thursday night but as I’ve always said it’s the players who if they play well pick themselves.

“Bayo needed some minutes on the pitch today, his back hasn’t been right but I think we have proved this season that we are capable of winning without him.

“It’s nice to finish in the play offs, we are a good few points better off than we were last season and that is a great achievement.

“A season is ten months of hard graft and it’s been a massive team effort to get where we are.

“I don’t want to make any congratulatory speeches just yet though because our season isn’t over, it’s just starting.

“It was great to see Sixfields full today and I’d love to see another full house here on Thursday night.

“I’d love it to be really noisy here and for the supporters to really play their part as they have done all season.”
