Cobblers boss previews Port Vale trip

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd is looking to secure a play-off place at Port Vale on Saturday.

“My mind set is for us to cement our place in the play-offs and then anything beyond that is a massive bonus,” he said.

“Getting into the play-offs is a bonus in itself from where we were 12 months ago but we are still going to go all out to try and win the next two games.

“Port Vale are a really good team and Micky Adams is someone who I have got a lot of respect for.

“They have got a player in their team who has scored 33 goals, there is a reason for that so we have got to make sure that we stop him and the rest of the team.

“It will be a tough game, they are where they are on merit and they will want to finish the job off on Saturday.

“We’ve got our own job to finish off though and whether there is a big crowd on Saturday or not and whether Port Vale are going for promotion or not, we’ve got our own agenda and that is to come back from Port Vale with as many points as we can.

“We are going there to win it and I’m not saying that lightly because it is going to be tough but when you have your toughest games you look for your tough players to come through and I think we have got one or two of those on show.

“I thought it was a good performance at Wycombe, possession wise and territorially I thought we had the better of it.

“Overall it was a very good strong solid away performance and I thought we deserved more out of the game than what we got.

“We are going through a spell at the minute where we aren’t scoring goals but we are getting into good positions and we are creating chances so I’m convinced that the goals will come.

“Alex Nicholls has been a big miss for us but the fact that we are where we are without one of our best players is a massive credit to all the other players in the squad.”
