Cobblers boss previews trip to Dagenham

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd previews Tuesday night’s trip to Dagenham & Redbridge.

“The mark of a team and the mark of an individual are bouncing back quickly and that’s what we have to do,” he said.

“John Johnson is fit, he was in on Sunday with all the other injured lads preparing to get himself right.

“Anthony Charles comes back in as well so although we’re disappointed to lose Danny East, John has trained and he will come back into the reckoning.

“Luke Guttridge comes into contention as well, the centre midfield players worked very hard on Saturday and bringing Luke back in is one option.

“Bayo trained on Monday and he will be available.

“The plan on Saturday was to play Bayo and Clive Platt up front together but unfortunately Bayo didn’t make it.

“There is that option again on Tuesday and as a centre half I wouldn’t want to play against either of those two. With Louis Moult and Alex Nicholls as well we’ve got that variety to be able to mix it up in games and that is vital.

“We’ve had six games now and we can assess where we are strong and what we need to improve on.

“We’ve come a long way in a short space of time but because I’m greedy as we all are I want more than that.

“Every game you have is an opportunity to learn something about the team and I think we learnt a load more lessons on Saturday.

“It’s far too early to look at the league table and there will be a lot of twists and turns between now and the end of the season.

“That’s the nature of it and that’s why consistency will always be the key to winning and being successful.

“Dagenham will be another tough game, I’ve got a lot of time and respect for John Still and not only is he a terrific guy he’s a brilliant football man.

“He’s worked wonders at Dagenham and the game is far better for having John in it. He knows the non-league circuit inside out and every year him and his staff put together a team that competes and punches above its weight.”
