BOOTHROYD SAYS POINT WAS FAIR

22 September 2012

The views of the Cobblers boss

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd on the 0-0 draw with Chesterfield.

“It was probably a fair result,” he said.

“We want to win and entertain the fans here so we are disappointed not to win the game but we take the positives and it’s another clean sheet.

“Chesterfield didn’t really carve out too many openings but we didn’t create enough opportunities either so all in all a draw was probably about fair.

“Clive Platt has been playing with an injury for a couple of weeks now and I just thought today was the right time to rest him.

“I have to make a special mention to Ben Tozer as well, Ben lost his Grandfather earlier in the week and I said to him that he didn’t have to be here today but he wanted to play and I thought he put in a very professional performance.

“Ben showed great character and I think we have got a lot of players here now who have got that.

“John Johnson can count himself very unlucky not to start today but Danny East has done very well. He was unfortunate to get sent off up at Fleetwood and I just thought at home his energy might give us a bit more going forward.

“Ben Harding is going to be out for four to six weeks and that is a real shame because Ben is a big player for us.

“He is the sort of lad who wants to get back as quickly as possible but with ankle ligaments you can’t risk bringing players back too soon.”
