AIDY PRAISES WORK ETHIC

15 September 2012

The views of the Cobblers boss

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd on the 1-0 defeat at Fleetwood.

"I'm irritated by the manner in which we conceded the goal because I thought the players deserved something for their efforts," he said.

"The players worked their socks off, they are disappointed not to come away with something and I thought we deserved to.

"You don't always get what you deserve but I didn't think we should have been down to ten men.

"To a man we were absolutely fantastic defensively, Fleetwood are a good side but we had a game plan and that worked until virtually the last kick of the game.

"We limited Fleetwood to long range shots and we managed the game really well.

"Eleven v eleven I think this game would have been a really good advert for the division but because of the nature of the game after the sending off we couldn't push too many players forward.

"A lesser team would have crumbled today but we stayed solid and there are a lot of positives we can take from this game.

"There are lessons to be learnt as well but I'm delighted to be working with this group of players and I don't think we are too far off being a really good team.

"This experience will harden us and to do well in this league you need to be battle hardened.

"We have got to recover from this quickly and get ourselves ready for Dagenham.

"John Johnson was touch and go for today and we will assess his injury again before Tuesday. Bayo has been ill but we are hoping it's just a 48 hour thing and that he will be okay."
