PLATT SET TO RETURN

2 October 2012

Striker back in squad

Striker Clive Platt is set to return to the Cobblers squad for the visit of league leaders Gillingham on Tuesday night.

“Clive will be on the bench,” confirmed boss Aidy Boothroyd.

“He wants to play and it will be good to have him back in the squad.

“Shane Higgs was back on the bench on Saturday, I’m sure he’d rather be starting but Lee Nicholls form has been so good he has to stay in the team.

“Lewis Wilson missed the game on Saturday with a dead leg but he will also come back into the squad.

“For an hour on Saturday I thought we were very poor and all three goals we conceded could have easily been avoided.

“Burton are a good team but I didn’t think they played particularly well on the day. We gave them a start and we gifted them the momentum.

“The positives are that we showed a lot of spirit to come back and in the end some outstanding individual performances pulled us through.

“It may have been entertaining but it was unprofessional and we won’t be successful if we play basketball football which is what that was.

“We gave Burton the momentum by making poor decisions in possession or by not clearing our lines correctly and in a game when you get momentum it is very difficult to stop.

“It carries you through but the pleasing thing for me on Saturday was that we took the momentum back from Burton, they didn’t give it to us and when we had the momentum we totally dominated the game.

“We need to do that from the start and that’s what teams like Gillingham do.

“Gillingham weren’t that far away last year, they are a good team and they are at the top of the table for a reason.

“We have to give them the respect that they have earned but at the same time we aren’t going into the game to be also rans because we think we have got a chance of winning it.”
