The views of the Cobblers boss

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd reflected on the 2-1 defeat against league leaders Gillingham.

“It was very disappointing and I thought it was a game we threw away,” he said.

“We had Gillingham on the back foot in the first half, we hit the bar and we created some good chances.

“It was a simple goal we gave away just before half-time which is difficult for me to understand because our two centre halves have been outstanding for us this season.

“It was an appalling mistake but these things happen and you have to bounce back from them.

“We need to learn from these things, that is an easy thing for a manager to say but we are still a fair way from the finished article.

“We’ve seen the team top of the league tonight and it doesn’t frighten me and it shouldn’t frighten anybody else.

“We want to be successful and that’s what we need to all aspire to be.

“I’ve not said too much to the players tonight but we will have a chat about it on Thursday.

“In the cold light of day we’ll sit down and we’ll regroup and try and get a positive result at Bristol Rovers.

“There are positives, we’ve got some really good players here now and we have got to go again on Saturday and give Bristol Rovers a problem.

“We take the positives from the ten games we’ve had so far but we know that there is still a lot of work to be done.”
