AIDY - 'WE WILL BOUNCE BACK'

19 October 2012

The views of the Cobblers boss

Northampton Town boss Aidy Boothroyd was far from happy after the 4-0 loss at Barnet on Friday night.

"What I say to the players will remain private but this was a hyped up game and we made Barnet look like world beaters,” he said.

“Yes we have a lot of young players and injuries but let's be fair it was not acceptable. We had fantastic travelling support and they will be disappointed, so am I, but I can promise you that we will be back. We will be working hard to do just that.

"We have made some terrific progress in recent months and I know the players we have here are good characters and will recover from this.

"We had some chances in the first half but the performance just wasn't good enough. We give Barnet credit but we should have done much, much better.

"The players are hurting, I am hurting and I will take responsibility for this. We have made massive steps but we are still not consistent enough and until we start making better decisions on and off the ball we will stay inconsistent.

"I thought we were solid and unspectacular in the first half, and we made some suicidal decisions in the second half. We didn't cause them anywhere near enough problems and we were just generally rubbish.

"Chris Hackett felt his groin and had to come off but every team gets injuries and you have to deal with them. Part of our growth is that we have to take set backs like this, we have to take it on the chin and step forward again.

"We are far, far better than we showed and we will be in over the weekend working and working to bounce back on Tuesday."
