Lee Nicholls, having rejoined on loan from Wigan until the end of the season, and Clive Platt both came back into the side with Shane Higgs and Anthony Charles dropping to the bench. Former Cobblers loanee Clarke Carlisle started for York.

Louis Moult had the first real opening for the Cobblers on 22 minutes but having made a good run to latch on to Platt's flick he flashed his shot wide.

York then took the lead, Matty Blair providing the clinical finish when one on one with Nicholls, giving the Cobblers keeper no chance.

Chris Hackett cut in well from the right on 29 minutes and was just inches over with his drive. A couple of minutes later Hackett did test Michael Ingham in the York goal but the keeper managed to dive to his left to palm away the effort.

The Cobblers were reduced to ten men on 42 minutes, Louis Moult shown a straight red card after a challenge on Chris Smith.

Lewis Hornby replaced John Johnson for the second half, Ben Tozer reverting to centre-back.

Adebayo Akinfenwa did well to bring the ball down and turn his man on 56 minutes to set up Hackett who sent his shot just wide.

Akinfenwa equalised for Town on 58 minutes, smashing the ball home after Ingham could only parry a fiercely struck Hackett free-kick.

Hackett fired a first-time shot straight at Ingham while following a York counter-attack Ashley Chambers was denied by the angle of post and crossbar.

Hackett beat his man on 75 minutes before playing in Danny East but his shot was well saved by Ingham at the second attempt.

The Cobblers almost scored as the game reached stoppage time, Hackett volleying just wide. Jamal Fyfield then went close for York in injury time but following a spirited second half display from ten man Town the game ended all square.
