ACCESSIBLE TRANSPORT SCHEME TO OXFORD

19 November 2012

NTFC Supporters Ltd has agreed to pilot a fully accessible minibus scheme for our disabled supporters

At the request of an avid Cobblers fan who, being a wheelchair user, has difficulties attending away matches NTFC Supporters Ltd has agreed to pilot a fully accessible minibus scheme for our disabled supporters.

The pilot will be launched for the away match at Oxford United on Saturday and has the backing of Northampton Town Football Club.

If there is sufficient interest we hope this will be at a cost comparable to standard away coach fares.  The minibus will, as closely as practicable, follow the match day itinerary of the Cobblers Travel coaches allowing wheelchair travellers to enjoy the full away match day experience.  The trip to Oxford will include a lunch stop of approx one and a half hours in Oxford City Centre.

The scheme will use fully accessible vehicles from the Nene and Ouse Community Transport Scheme and a qualified driver will be provided. The vehicles can accommodate fixed/electric and transferable wheelchair users and their carers.  Actual places available will depend on different configurations to meet the needs of individual wheelchair users.

If you are interested in participating in this pilot please contact Linda Smith on 07840 355864 or Derry Felton on 07849 012157 as soon as possible.  Bookings for the away trip to Oxford will need to be made by Thursday at the latest.

If there is sufficient interest Cobblers Travel hope to establish a regular group transport scheme.  They may also explore options for extending this to include a door to door service for home matches.  Therefore early expressions of interest would be appreciated.

Finally they would also be looking to establish a pool of volunteer minibus drivers (should the scheme prove popular) to share the driving in return for free transport to the match.  Drivers would need to have code D1 on their licence or MIDAS or PSV training.  Again if you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact Linda or Derry for more information.
