Cobblers boss looking to add finishing touches to squad

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd is still looking to add to his squad with the new season now just weeks away.

“The point of dropping from a squad of 30 plus players down to 18 or 19 was to make sure that we had quality rather than quantity,” he said.

“I think we have got that quality now barring a couple of additions and it’s important for us now to do everything we can to make sure that we look after the players we’ve got so that they can perform.

“In terms of players coming in there is no timescale and we’ve just got to see what happens.

“I’ve spoken to Paul Turnbull, he’s a great lad but he just doesn’t fit into what I want to do here so we are hoping to sort something out to help the club and help him for his future career.

“Football being what it is there is always a lot of excitement around at this time of year but I don’t think we should be getting overexcited and I think if we finish higher than we did last year everyone would be delighted.

“I won’t be making any bold predictions, I’ve got a few targets for the season in mind but I won’t be making any public and we will be using these next four weeks to make sure that we are as fit and organised and as prepared as we can be for what is going to be a tough campaign.”
