Cobblers boss full of respect for Saturday's opponents
Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd is expecting Saturday’s home game against Aldershot, kick-off 2pm, to be a really tough test for his side.
“We know from our own experiences and our games so far this season that we can beat anybody in this league but we can also lose to anybody,” he said.
“The second half of the season is going to be all about consistency and that means when you play teams at home you have got to go all out to get the win.
“Aldershot have the 5th best away record in League 2 so we know that we will have to respect their strengths but at the same time see if we can exploit their weaknesses.
“The games come thick and fast over Christmas and I think it’s very important that we try and keep everybody fit.
“The full squad is going to be used and we need to make sure that we have the right energy levels in every game.
“I’ve always had my teams in on Christmas Day because I think it’s important that you prepare properly.
“You get some strange results over Christmas, a lot of that is due to the number of games in a very short space of time but it’s also because perhaps the work hasn’t been done.
“We’ve got a plan for the January transfer window but things can change very quickly especially with the amount of games we’ve got coming up in the next couple of weeks.
“You’ve got to be prepared to be flexible and at the same time be ready to act very quickly.
“This transfer window is going to be just as important as the one last January but it’s slightly different too. Last year it was getting players in to help us survive and this year it will be about getting players in who I think are going to take us to the next level.
“We’ve proved that we can mix it around mid table but I want us to be better than that. I want us to move on to the next level and to give ourselves a chance of doing that we need to put points on the board over Christmas.
“In terms of our performances there has been a lot of improvement and there has been an improvement in terms of our results as well but not enough for my liking.”
