Cobblers boss feels game is a 'chance to measure ourselves'
Northampton Town manager Aidy Boothroyd is looking to take the positives from a blank Boxing Day when he takes his team to top of the table Gillingham on Saturday (3pm kick off).
"We will go there in a good frame of mind,” he said.
“The momentum from the Aldershot game is carried over but we know it will be tough. Gillingham are top of the table for a reason.
"When we played them at Sixfields in October I felt it was a very tight game, but they took the chance to win the game that we presented to them. They are very good at punishing teams, which is why they are top and we haven't been quite so good at that, which is why we aren't, but we are improving and this will give us a chance to measure ourselves against the team who have been the best team in this division over the first half of the season.
"The call off on Boxing Day puts in to context how well Paul Knowles and his staff did to get the game on against Aldershot. It was annoying on Boxing Day but we have had a few more days on the training ground and we will be raring to go on Saturday for what will be a very tough game.”
