Cobblers boss left to reflect on Gillingham postponement

Aidy Boothroyd was left to reflect on the second frustrating postponement of the festive period after Saturday’s game at Gillingham was called off, going the same way as the aborted trip to AFC Wimbledon on Boxing Day.

“It is very disappointing but you just have to get on with it,” he said.

“We are not at Gillingham, they know their pitch and their conditions and we trust their opinion and that of the referee. If the pitch is not fit, it is not fit and there is nothing you can do about that.

“The pitches are also very wet in Northampton of course, but we have managed to find one patch of grass that is ready for us to train on and that is our main pitch.  The Groundsman is working very hard on the pitch to keep it in the best shape possible and us training on it allows us to prepare as well as we possibly can for the games coming up.

“The call off means we may have a backlog of away games later in the season and it makes the New Year’s Day game against Dagenham all the more important.“
