AIDY PONDERING SWITCH WITH BAYO OUT

21 December 2012

Striker to miss Shots clash

The Cobblers will be without leading goalscorer Adebayo Akinfenwa for Saturday’s Sixfields clash against Aldershot, kick-off 2pm.

Akinfenwa picked up his 5th yellow card of the season at Torquay and now serves a one match ban.

“Losing Bayo is a blow but with all the players I certainly have a 'what if' scenario,” said boss Aidy Boothroyd.

“That’s what you have a squad for and there are plenty of things we can do. We can switch formations or we can play in a slightly different way and that’s the quality of the players we’ve got now.

“The fact that we have got players who can play in a number of different positions and that we can attack teams in a variety of different ways helps, of course Bayo will be missed because he is a big player for us but it just allows everybody else to do that little bit more.

“Joe Widdowson has had a dead leg but it’s been quite a complicated one so we didn’t want to risk him at Torquay.

“He’s back in training now though and we think he is going to be alright for Saturday.

“Luke Guttridge won’t be involved against Aldershot, he is a big player for us and I don’t want to rush him back until he is one hundred per cent.

“He’s making great progress and he is well ahead of where we thought he would be which is credit to Luke as an individual.”
