The views of the Cobblers boss
Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd reflected on the 3-2 defeat against Cheltenham.
“We started very well and we really had Cheltenham on the back foot,” he said.
“We created lots of chances and we made Cheltenham make some rash decisions defensively.
“Cheltenham are a really good side though and you have to give them credit for coming back at us.
“I thought we brought the best out of them but I was really disappointed with the goals we conceded.
“We shot ourselves in the foot three times and for the last 15 minutes we stopped doing all the good things that have made us successful in games this season.
“We are always going to score goals but the irritating thing for me is that we are not going to be successful by winning three games in a row and then losing three in a row.
“We’ve got a decision to make as a group as to where we want to be but Cheltenham beat us today because they deserved to.
“We didn’t take advantage of our two goal lead, Cheltenham managed the game really well and we have to accept this defeat.
“As a group we have improved enormously but it’s still not good enough and we are still not where I want us to be.
“We will bounce back and respond to this defeat, we are in a reasonable position coming up to Christmas and it won’t take much to keep us moving forward as a club.
“Lewis Hornby got a bit of a knock but he’s fine and that is all part of his development. I’ve been really pleased with Lewis and I’m sure he will go on to play a great number of games for us.”
