Adebayo Akinfenwa came into the Cobblers side for the home pre-season friendly against a Tottenham Hotspur XI.
Spurs took the lead on 5 minutes, John Bostock with an accomplished finish after latching onto a through ball from Grant Hall.
With 18 minutes on the clock Ishmel Demontagnac went close with a curling drive that hit the side netting.
Jordan Archer made a good save to deny Akinfenwa who had been played in by Demontagnac before Ben Harding saw his shot from the ensuing corner deflected behind.
Dean Snedker made a smart stop on 36 minutes to deny Bostock as the Londoners looked to double their lead. Archer saved well from a Chris Hackett free-kick as the first half came to an end.
Alex Nicholls had a chance to level at the start of the second half after being fed in by Akinfenwa but the former Walsall man was thwarted by a fine stop from Archer.
Souleymane Coulibaly doubled Spurs lead on 51 minutes as rain started to lash down at Sixfields.
Tottenham further increased their lead on 57 minutes with Coulibaly again on target from the edge of the area.
Aidy Boothroyd made a double change midway through the second half with trialist Louis Molt and Ben Tozer replacing Ben Harding and Ishmel Demontagnac.
Chris Hackett went close with a fizzed effort across the face of goal as the game entered the final 15 minutes. Following a flurry of Spurs substitutions Moult shot straight at Archer.
Lewis Wilson came on for Akinfenwa before Kelvin Langmead headed home a Chris Hackett free kick to give the Cobblers a consolation as the game drew to a close.
