In the second round of the Capital One Cup, Northampton Town took on Championship side Wolves in front of the Sky Sports cameras at Sixfields.

New loan signing from Hull City Danny East and Dean Snedker both came into the side with Wigan Athletic not wishing for Lee Nicholls to become cup-tied. John Johnson was rested as a precaution after picking up a knock against Southend.

The Cobblers started brightly with Alex Nicholls firing wide and a dipping free-kick from Chris Hackett going over.

Wolves then scored against the run of play and with their first real opportunity of the game, Danny Batth getting the final touch in a bobbled finish from a corner.

Clive Platt grabbed a deserved equaliser for the Cobblers on 40 minutes, rising well to thump home a header from a pin-point cross from Hackett.

Frank Nouble put Wolves back in front just before half-time, sending a looping header past Snedker, the ball agonisingly just creeping over the goal line.

Aidy Boothroyd made a change at the break, Henoc Mukendi coming on for Alex Nicholls.

Snedker tipped a drilled shot from David Davis round the post as Wolves enjoyed a spell of concerted pressure for the first real time on the night.

Adebayo Akinfenwa entered the fray on 57 minutes, Ben Tozer making way. A last-ditch tackle from Kelvin Langmead denied Davis a good goalscoring opportunity while for the Cobblers a shot from Ben Harding was deflected behind.

Louis Moult replaced goalscorer Platt in the Cobblers third and final change.

Bakary Sako rounded off the scoring and it was Wolves who progressed through to round three.
