The views of the Cobblers boss

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd reflected on the 2-1 victory over promotion favourites Rotherham United.

“I’m really pleased with the start we’ve made, I thought it was an excellent performance tonight and we were well worth the win,” he said.

“For the first 35 minutes we were terrific and that’s definitely the best period of play that we’ve had in the eight months or so since I’ve been here.

“We created some really good chances and we outfootballed Rotherham in the middle of the pitch.

“It was a great finish from Chris Hackett and if he shoots like that then he is going to get a lot more.

“Rotherham are a good side and I knew they would come back at us and in the second half they were the stronger team for 25 minutes.

“We came back at them though and what we have got if we are under pressure is the ability and the pace to counter attack.

“Alex Nicholls is a good finisher and I think he will gain in confidence and get more and more goals the more he plays.

“We will enjoy this victory but at the same time we know that we have got another tough game coming up on Saturday and we need to make sure that we prepare properly for that.

“We will keep our feet on the ground but what I do know is that if we perform like we did tonight over a 46 game period then we are going to take some stopping.”
