The Northampton Town youth team travelled to Gillingham on Saturday for their final EFL Youth Alliance fixture before the Merit Division phase of the season begins.
The Cobblers were beaten 2-0 but had to play for over 50 minutes with nine men after having two players sent off.
"The boys showed a lot of character to defend for 55 minutes with nine men but unfortunately the game was already gone for us," said coach Jon Brady.
"We've looked at the video again and I'm disappointed with the referee's decisions but we just have to take this game on the chin and move on."
