Sam Hoskins and Jack Sowerby came into the Northampton Town side for the midweek Nene Derby at the Weston Homes Stadium. Will Hondermarck started at right-back with Jordan Willis missing through injury. Tony Springett was back on the bench after a short illness.

Jon Guthrie put the Cobblers in front on 9 minutes, heading in a cross from Marc Leonard. The goal came from a well worked corner routine with Pinnock and Leonard playing a neat one-two before the latter delivered a pin-point cross for the skipper to head home at the back post.

Peterborough got themselves back on level terms just after the midway point of the first half when a drilled ball in from Jadel Katongo was turned in by Ephron Mason-Clark and it wasn’t long after that the home side were in front, Kwame Poku finding the bottom corner.

Posh were enjoying a good spell of pressure and it needed a vital interception from Sam Sherring to prevent a chance for Ricky Jade-Jones but with the first half about to enter stoppage time, Joel Randall scored from close range to make it 3-1, despite appeals for offside.

Jon Brady made a double change at half-time with Liam Moore and louis Appere coming on for Shaun McWilliams and Jack Sowerby.

Hector Kyprianou headed in on 59 minutes to make it 4-1 and Josh Knight then added a fifth as Peterborough continued to press. Brady responded by bringing on Tyreece Simpson, Manny Monthe and Tony Springett in a triple change.

Despite the scoreline there was no let up from the home side and Patrick Brough was in the right place at the right time to deny Posh substitute Malik Mothersille, Archie Collins fired just over from distance and Monthe blocked a shot from another substitute David Ajiboye. It wasn’t the Cobblers night and the game finished 5-1.
