Northampton Town took on promotion chasing Blackpool under the Sixfields lights in the last scheduled midweek fixture of the season.

Sam Sherring was back from injury as one of three changes to the Cobblers starting XI with Shaun McWilliams and Louis Appere also in the side. Mitch Pinnock was named on the bench having missed the weekend game at Cambridge through illness.

With not too many clear openings for either side in the opening half an hour, Kieron Bowie saw a shot from just outside the area saved by Dan Grimshaw while Louie Moulden made an excellent stop to prevent Blackpool taking the lead from a corner, somehow tipping the ball onto the bar from six-yards out. Jake Beesley was the player denied on that occasion with Matt Pennington then heading over from another set piece later in the half.

Jon Brady made a change at half-time with Mitch Pinnock coming on for Patrick Brough.

Blackpool’s leading goalscorer Jordan Rhodes fired into the side netting as the Tangerines started to up the tempo in the second half and the visitors made the breakthrough on 55 minutes, Matt Pennington getting the final touch to a set piece scramble in the box.

Manny Monthe and Tyreece Simpson replaced Liam Moore and Kieron Bowie midway through the second half as half-time substitute Mitch Pinnock saw a shot deflected behind by Blackpool goalscorer Pennington. Jack Sowerby then made way for Ben Fox before Sam Hoskins came on for Appere in the Cobblers fifth and final change of the evening.

Harvey Lintott had a shot blocked behind, Pinnock fired just over the bar and Hoskins drew a save from Grimshaw deep into stoppage time as the Cobblers pressed for an equaliser but Blackpool held on for the win.

PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY FOR THE BLACKPOOL GAME

Another big Sixfields crowd expected

12 March 2024

There is plenty happening at Sixfields on Tuesday!

Please do arrive early as we are expected to be busy. Please also look to enter the turnstiles and to take your seats as soon as possible to avoid any delays particularly in the busy fifteen minutes prior to kick off. While we will do all we can to ensure smooth and efficient entry in to the game, ticket and security checks must take place and arriving late may mean you miss kick off.

The turnstiles will open at 6pm and entry in to the stadium is welcomed at any point from that time onwards.

The north gravel car park will be open from 5pm while the car park at Duston Mill, which is not operated by the club but is available for supporters to park in, (sat nav NN5 5FP) will also be open. Please do not park in the car parks of other business premises in or around Sixfields. There may well be parking restrictions in place.

Carr's Bar will be open before and after the game (home supporters only), while the club store will be open before the game only.

A reminder that no persons under the age of 14 are permitted to attend a fixture without an accompanying adult.

The ticket office will also be open from 10am until kick off and again after the game until the queue has cleared. Please note from 6.45pm the ticket office will be dealing with Blackpool ticket sales only. Sales for other games and of season tickets will resume after the match.

Match tickets can be collected from the ticket office until 6.45pm (ID required), and from the ticket collection point opposite the ticket office from 6pm onwards.

Tickets for the game remain on sale via ntfcdirect.co.uk

We wish you an enjoyable evening at Sixfields, but please do arrive early!
