Jon Brady made one change for the trip to Cheltenham Town with Louis Appere replacing Tyreece Simpson while Shaun McWilliams, back from injury, was named on the bench.

Jon Guthrie drew an early save from Luke Southwood and Patrick Brough drilled a shot just wide in an encouraging opening twenty minutes from the Cobblers.

Kieron Bowie fired over after being played in by Appere midway through the first half and as the Cobblers continued to knock on the door they were denied by the woodwork when Sam Sherring headed against the crossbar from a pin-point Marc Leonard corner.

Mitch Pinnock appealed in vain for a penalty in first half stoppage time and despite their first half dominance the Cobblers went in at half-time with the scoreline still 0-0.

Brough flashed a shot across the face of goal early in the second half as the Cobblers continued to put pressure on the home side. Sam Hoskins deflected shot from a wide angle found the side netting and Bowie had a shot blocked from close range before being replaced by Simpson in Jon Brady’s first change.

Elliot Bonds fired over and Max Thompson saved comfortably from Liam Sercombe in a brief flurry from Cheltenham but in a somewhat fragmented second half clear cut chances for either side were proving hard to come by.

The Cobblers had another penalty appeal turned down when Simpson appeared to be clipped by Curtis Davies but not long after that Jon Brady’s side did make the breakthrough, Sam Hoskins capitalising on a slip from a defender before firing home from an acute angle.

Hoskins goal proved decisive as for the second week running the Cobblers clinched all three points thanks to a dramatic late winner.
