A number of Cobblers youngsters were again given a run out as Jon Brady’s side played their final group game in this seasons Papa John’s Trophy.

Aaron McGowan, out since April with a knee injury, made his return to the side while Brady watched on from the stands with the Cobblers boss serving a one-game touchline ban.

Josh Tomlinson became the youngest ever Cobblers goalscorer when he opened the scoring on 8 minutes, the centre-half rising superbly to head home a corner from Liam Cross.

Jack Connor then saw a shot saved by Karl Hein in a bright start from the Cobblers while Peter Abimbola made a terrific interception to prevent an Arsenal breakaway.

Hein was at full stretch as Cross whistled a strike just wide and the Arsenal keeper saved a header from Connor as the Cobblers pressed for a second goal.

Hein saved from Ryan Haynes early in the second half before Dylan Hill and Harvey Lintott came on in a double change. Cross then had a chance to double the Cobblers lead but the young striker dragged his shot wide.

Jonny Maxted saved with his feet to keep the Cobblers in front but from the resulting corner kick Arsenal equalised through Zach Awe.

15-year old Ethan Nwaneri, the current youngest player to play in the Premier League came on in a double change for the Gunners, who were enjoying a good spell of pressure.

Arsenal had been threatening and they were in front when Amario Cozier-Duberry gave Maxted no chance after cutting in from the right and curling a shot into the top corner.

Rico Duggan came on to make his Cobblers debut but having enjoyed the better of the second half, Arsenal scored a third goal deep in stoppage time, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji with a cute finish.
