Louis Appere, Tyler Magloire and Jack Sowerby all came into the side as boss Jon Brady made three changes for the visit of Grimsby Town. Ben Fox, who had to be substituted in the midweek draw with AFC Wimbledon, joined the growing injury list while Shaun McWilliams was only considered fit enough to be named on the bench.

Marc Leonard drew an early save from Max Crocombe in another energetic start from the Cobblers but Tom King was also called upon in the opening ten minutes, John McAtee shooting straight at the Cobblers keeper.

Sam Hoskins put the Cobblers in front on 18 minutes with his 17th goal of the season, Ali Koiki and Louis Appere combining in the build-up to set up Hoskins who slotted home from inside the area.

Grimsby were posing a threat in an open first half and King made a good save to deny Danilo Orsi an equaliser as the first forty five drew to a close.

George Lloyd and Michee Efete came on in a double change for Grimsby for the second half which begun with John McAtee curling a shot just over the bar from 30-yards. McAtee then went close again with a shot narrowly wide of King’s upright.

Crocombe saved a Hoskins free kick and Koiki had a shot deflected behind as the Cobblers pressed for a second goal which Hoskins would have got but for a terrific block at close range from a Grimsby defender.

Grimsby equalised with just over a quarter of an hour to play, Luke Waterfall heading home Josh Emmanuel’s pinpoint cross into the box.

The Cobblers responded well to the Mariners equaliser, Leonard seeing a shot blocked before Crocombe saved from Hoskins. Jon Brady then made a triple change with Josh Eppiah, Will Hondermarck and Shaun McWilliams all coming on.

The game was delicately poised but it was Grimsby who won it in stoppage time, Anthony Glennon scoring from close range to snatch all three points for the visitors.
