Hartlepool United were the visitors to a sunkissed Sixfields on an extremely hot mid-August afternoon.

Jon Brady was forced into making one change to the side that started the previous league fixture with Harvey Lintott replacing Sam Sherring who picked up a knock in the draw at Grimsby. Lintott slotted in at right-back with Tyler Magloire partnering Jon Guthrie at centre-half.

The temperature pitch side at kick off was around 35°C.

After a couple of early half chances for Louis Appere and Jon Guthrie it needed a good block from Harvey Lintott to deny David Ferguson a clear strike on goal.

Ben Killip saved a half-volley from Sam Hoskins before the first drinks break of the afternoon mid-way through the first half.

Tyler Magloire broke the deadlock just after the half-hour mark, powering home a header after a good initial double-save from Killip to deny Danny Hylton.

Pools went in at half-time level however, Josh Umerah scoring from close range deep into stoppage time following a fine initial stop from Lee Burge.

Marc Leonard came on for the second half in place of Jack Sowerby and the Brighton loanee was soon involved in the action, putting in a cross that Louis Appere headed wide.

Louis Appere did get himself on the scoresheet on 57 minutes, Alex Lacey escaping with only a yellow card after handling the ball on the goal-line before Appere fired home.

Umerah was then denied by a terrific point blank save from Lee Burge, Pools almost immediately back on level terms for a second time.

Ben Fox, on for Appere following the second drinks break of the afternoon, saw a shot saved by Killip and Mitch Pinnock fired wide from a well-worked free kick as the Cobblers looked to seal victory with a third goal. Hartlepool weren’t out of it though and Umerah headed just over from a Ferguson cross in a moment of danger for Jon Brady’s side.

Six minutes of stoppage time were signalled by the fourth official which the Cobblers saw out to claim all three points.
